About this Qualification

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

 

Certification:

Upon successful completion, students will receive:

  • Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • WorkSafe WA Approved Construction Induction Training Card*.

Statement of Attainment will be issued under ABV RTO (52592).

 

Enrolment Information:
Students are required to read the Student Handbook and agree to the Terms and Conditions prior to enrolment. All students must satisfactorily complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment at a minimum of ACSF Level 1 and participate in a course suitability discussion during the pre-enrolment process. Once the enrolment is reviewed, students will receive confirmation of their enrolment. A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) is mandatory for all students. * The WorkSafe WA Approved Construction Induction Training Card (CIT) cards are only issued to students who provide evidence that they are located in Western Australia at the time of the assessment for the CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry unit of competency.

Evidence can include:

  • Current Western Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Current Western Australian learner driver’s permit
  • Current Western Australian Student Identification
  • Recent utilities invoice with a Western Australia address and the name of the person to whom the CIT card will be issued
  • Birth Certificate: In some cases, a birth certificate may be required as additional proof of identity.
  • Visa or Work Permit: If applicable, for non-citizens or residents working in Australia.
  • Western Australian postal address to which the CIT card is to be posted.

 

What You Need To Provide:

Students will be required to wear enclosed shoes, long pants and high visibility long sleeve shirt.

 

Entry Requirements:

  • Students must be at least 14 years of age.
  • Students must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or have legal rights to study in Australia.

Further Study Options:

Students who successfully complete CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry may choose to continue their studies towards RII20720 Certificate II in Civil Construction or RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.
