About this Qualification

This nationally accredited qualification provides an entry point to working in the disability support sector. You will gain the skills and knowledge to be specialised in providing individualised support and facilitate the empowerment of people with disabilities. You will get to work with diverse people and help support their independence and wellbeing. This course is designed to equip you with the practical skills to enable you to have a long and thriving career as a Support Worker. You will unlock a variety of job opportunities and step into an in-demand industry.

 

Delivery Mode:

This qualification will be delivered full time over a period of 14 weeks with the following structure:

  • Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm

 

In addition to the classroom delivery over 14 weeks, a mandatory component of the course is a practical placement of 120 hours, working within an actual disability focused environment. Our dedicated Work Placement Officer will help you secure a placement and support you through this process. Students are expected to meet the requirements of the host provider and be flexible with the host organisation’s allocated time for work placement. For students requiring extra assistance, up to 26 weeks is allowed to complete the course.

This program is a blended learning program delivered in the classroom and online via Microsoft Teams.

 

Certification:

Upon successful completion, students will receive:

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) testamur

 

A Statement of Attainment will be supplied for partial completion of the course.

Certificate will be issued under ABV (RTO 52592).

 

Enrolment Information:

Students are required to read the Student Handbook and agree to the Terms and Conditions prior to enrolment. All students must satisfactorily complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment at a minimum of ACSF Level 3 and participate in a course suitability discussion during the pre-enrolment process. Students may be required to complete a digital literacy assessment. Once the enrolment is reviewed, students will receive confirmation of their enrolment. You are required to apply for a personal education number known as Unique Student Identifier (USI) as part of studying a nationally recognised course. To apply for a USI, go to www.usi.gov.au

Packaging rules for this qualification require the completion of 15 units of which 9 are core units and 6 are elective units.

What You Need To Provide:

Students should have access to a computer/tablet/laptop, speaker, microphone, camera, reliable internet and email access and Microsoft Teams installed.

 

Entry requirements:

  • Students must be 18 years or older at the time of enrolment.
  • Students must be a citizen/permanent resident or have legal rights to study in Australia.
  • Students should have good computer skills, internet navigation abilities for self-study research, be efficient in interpreting and maintaining documents, and communicate effectively with others.
  • To be well-prepared for this course, we recommend that students possess empathy and a willingness to empower others, patience and emotional intelligence to understand and connect with people, the ability to work with vulnerable individuals in challenging situations, and a passion for providing the best possible support to those in need.

 

Pre-Placement Requirements:

  • Current Police Clearance (less than 6 months old) – mandatory
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check – mandatory
  • Some host organisations may require additional records such as vaccination records (flu, COVID) and Working With Children Check

  • The student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such as student service and resource fees.

WA Funding Eligibility Criteria:

  • Students must have turned 18 years of age.
  • Students must have completed an Australian Year 10 qualification or equivalent.
  • Students primary place of residence must be in Western Australia.
  • Students must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or holders of a sub-class 300, 309, 444, 445, 449, 461, 785, 786, 790, or 820 visa; secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 188, 457, 482, 489, 491 or 494 visa; holders of a Bridging Visa E (subclasses 050 and 051) where the visa holder has made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790;  holders of a bridging visa who are eligible to work, and who have made a valid application for a subclass 866.
  • Proof of eligibility is required at the time of enrolment.
  • Enrolling in this course may impact your eligibility for future funding with DTWD.

 

Assessment Methods:

For each unit of competency, these methods may include:

  • Written knowledge assessments and case studies
  • Oral questions
  • Direct observation practical demonstration / practical role plays
  • Written assessment (projects, portfolio, reflective tasks)
  • Third party assessments
  • Work samples

 

Students are required to demonstrate that they can apply the knowledge and skills learnt in a range of situations and in varying contexts so many of the assessment requirements of the units of competencies will need to be demonstrated on more than one occasion.

 

Other Information:

There are no classes scheduled on Public Holidays.

 

Further Study Options:

Students who successfully complete the course may choose to continue to study a higher qualification such as CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support with another provider if desired.
