Employability Skills Training (EST)

Employability Skills Training (EST) is part of the Government’s Workforce Australia initiative. If you are aged 15 and above, we provide EST training that gives a broad understanding of a variety of industries and work-related behaviours and skills.

An Eligible EST Participant must be aged 15 years and over, and meet one of the following conditions:

  • be participating in Online Full Service, Workforce Australia Services, Yarrabah Employment Services, or Broome Employment Services and either in receipt of:
    • income support payments that are subject to Mutual Obligation Requirements, or
    • Disability Support Pension and has compulsory participation requirements
  • be participating in Transition to Work (TtW) Services, or
  • be participating in Disability Employment Services (DES) in the employment assistance phase.

There is no limit in the number of times a Participant can undertake EST if the Provider considers that the Participant would benefit.

What types of Employability Skills Training courses are available?

There are two types:

Boosting job search and workplace skills.

Building industry-specific knowledge and skills.

 

What skills can participants gain?

Industry-specific skills, including accredited and non-accredited training.

 

What commitment is required?

Each course is 75 hours, with options for 3 weeks (25 hours per week) or 5 weeks (15 hours per week).

 

Can it help meet mutual obligation requirements?

Yes, undertaking Employability Skills Training can assist in meeting mutual obligation requirements.

 

Who is eligible?

Those aged 15 and over receiving Centrelink payments or Disability Support Pension, and participating in eligible employment services.

 

How to register?

Self-refer through Workforce Australia Online or via employment services providers.

Individualised Career Action Plans

Our experienced coaches collaborate with you to identify your strengths, skills, interests, goals, and values, aligning them with local opportunities. From this, we create a tailored Career Action Plan that guides your path to success.

Industry Awareness Experiences

We provide Industry Awareness Experiences to give you insight into high-demand industries in your area, focusing on those you’re interested in. Through practical placements and classroom presentations, you’ll engage with industry professionals, practice interviews, and gain a deeper understanding of future needs and required skills.

Your Commitment

Each course involves 75 hours of training, offered as either 25 hours per week over 3 weeks or 15 hours per week over 5 weeks. You can choose one or both types of Employability Skills Training courses, all at no cost. Participating in these courses also helps you fulfill your mutual obligation requirements.
